Former B.C. Solicitor General Kash Heed sided with the Edmonton Police Service, strongly criticizing the plea deal that reduced a first-degree murder charge to manslaughter in the killing of an 8-year-old girl. Heed argued that such lenient plea bargains undermine public confidence in the justice system and fail to deliver true justice for victims.
Criminal lawyer Brij Mohan, however, took a sharply different stance, condemning the Edmonton Police for publicly challenging the Crown prosecutors. He called it inappropriate for police to “threaten” Crown counsel, stressing that both serve justice in their respective roles.
