Three individuals have been arrested and charged in relation to a shooting incident from March that investigators believe is connected to an ongoing extortion investigation.
According to a release from the Surrey Police Service (SPS), a residence in the 13300-block of 89A Avenue was struck by multiple gunshots at approximately 1:55 a.m. on March 27. No one was injured in the incident.
The victim contacted the SPS later that day, and the subsequent investigation determined the shooting was related to an active extortion file. Police identified three suspects, leading to the execution of multiple search warrants.
With assistance from policing partners, the three individuals were arrested on October 3. They have each been charged with one count of reckless discharge of a firearm contrary to section 244.2 of the Criminal Code.
The charged individuals were identified as Mandeep Gidda (23), Nirmaandeep Cheema (20) and Arundeep Singh (26).
“These three arrests and charges are a positive step forward as Surrey Police Service continues to aggressively tackle the issue of extortions in collaboration with the Provincial Extortions Task Force and other policing partners across the country,” said SPS Chief Const. Norm Lipinski in the release.
