An 11-year-old boy, Kai Pavlovic, is missing in Metro Vancouver, but authorities say the case does not meet the criteria for an Amber Alert.

Burnaby RCMP said the investigation began nearly a week ago after officers were called to conduct a well-being check. Police believe Kai may be staying with a caretaker unknown to them.

“Various investigative avenues have been pursued to confirm Kai’s whereabouts, but so far these efforts have been unsuccessful,” the RCMP said, noting that numerous resources are being dedicated and officers are working around the clock.

An Amber Alert is only issued when a child’s abduction is confirmed, the child is in immediate danger, and there is sufficient information about the suspect to share with the public.

“Our initial priority was to let people know Kai is missing and to share his picture,” said Burnaby RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Laura Hirst. “Investigators are making every effort to locate him, and we are asking for the public’s help.”

Anyone with information about Kai’s location is urged to contact their local police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
