A movie theatre in Oakville, Ont., has cancelled several South Asian film screenings after being targeted in two separate incidents of arson and gunfire over the past week.
Film.ca Cinemas, located on Speers Road near Dorval Drive, was first attacked on Sept. 25 around 5:20 a.m., when two suspects carrying red gas cans set fire to the exterior entrance doors. The blaze was contained to the outside of the building, causing moderate damage. Surveillance video shows a white SUV arriving just before the incident, followed by two masked individuals pouring liquid from jerrycans before one ignited the fire.
A week later, on Oct. 2 at around 1:50 a.m., a lone suspect fired multiple rounds into the theatre’s entrance doors. Police describe the shooter as a heavy-set man with dark skin, wearing all black and a black face mask.
Halton police say both incidents appear to be targeted attacks. In response, the theatre has cancelled planned screenings of Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 and They Call Him OG.
