A 55-year-old man has been charged with 18 offences in connection with a series of residential break-ins that began in September 2023.
Shane Conrad Takakenew faces seven counts of breaking and entering, nine counts of possession of stolen property, and two counts of breaching a release order, the Burnaby RCMP said Wednesday.
The department’s Strike Force Unit investigated break-ins occurring between September 2023 and June 2024. Charges against Takakenew were filed in May, and he was arrested on 14 outstanding warrants on August 27. Court records show he remains in custody, with his next appearance scheduled for October 14.
Also charged is 34-year-old Burnaby resident Fabiola Diaz, who faces nine counts of possession of stolen property—four under $5,000 and five over $5,000. Diaz is not in custody but is due in court on October 14.
“Victims of break-ins face not only the loss of valuable items but also a significant emotional toll,” said Sgt. Aly Mohan of the Strike Force Unit. “While we were able to return several stolen items to victims, we want the public to know support services are available to help address the fear and anxiety caused by these crimes.”
