A suspect has been arrested in connection with the assassination of Charlie Kirk, and Utah Governor Spencer Cox stated the motive appears to be political. The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, was apprehended after a family friend notified authorities.
According to Governor Cox, the suspect told a family friend that he was involved in the shooting and had become increasingly political, opposing Kirk’s beliefs. U.S. President Donald Trump announced the arrest on Friday during a live interview on Fox News Channel, saying, “With a high degree of certainty, we have him.” Trump later revealed that the suspect’s father was the one who turned him in through a minister with ties to law enforcement.
Charlie Kirk, the co-founder of the non-profit political organization Turning Point USA, was killed on Wednesday on a university campus in Utah. Police reported that he was shot once by a sniper in what they believe was a targeted attack.
This arrest marks a significant breakthrough in an investigation that has drawn national attention. Authorities have yet to release further details about the ongoing investigation.
