Rising concerns over public safety are once again in the spotlight after an early morning shooting damaged a vehicle in Surrey’s Newton neighbourhood on Monday.
This incident, which occurred just after 4 a.m. on Monday, marks another instance in a recent string of gunfire reports across the city. As Surrey Police Service (SPS) officers continue to investigate and search for a motive, the South Asian community is left grappling with the growing frequency of these violent events.
As per sources, the targeted home belongs to a person from Punjabi community.
Surrey Police Service (SPS) said officers are investigating a shooting that took place early Monday morning, which resulted in a vehicle being damaged outside a home in the Newton neighbourhood.
“Shortly after 4 a.m. on September 8, 2025, SPS officers were called to a residence on the 5800 block of 124 Street after receiving reports of possible gunshots. Upon arrival, police found a parked vehicle with damage and evidence that was consistent with gunfire. Officers spoke with several residents in the area, and fortunately, no one was injured,” police said in a statement.
Investigators are still on the scene, where they are collecting evidence and canvassing the neighbourhood for any CCTV or dashcam footage. The SPS Frontline Investigative Support (FLIS) Team has taken over the investigation and is working to determine a motive and any possible connections to other incidents.
