he BC Muslim Association is organizing an interfaith public safety forum in Surrey to address gang violence.

The event, titled Guns, Drugs and Gangs Forum, will take place Sunday, Aug. 31, at Surrey Jamea Masjid (12407 72 Ave.) from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., following Zohar prayer.

According to the association, the initiative aims to bring faith communities together to protect youth and build a safer future. Keynote speaker Yusef-Andre Wiley, a former Blood Gang member from South Central Los Angeles, will be joined by Imam Osama Raj, community members, and elected officials.

A social media post promoting the forum states: “Whether you’re a parent concerned about your teenager, a community leader looking for solutions, or a young person ready to be part of the change, this forum is for you. Come prepared to listen, learn, and take concrete actions to protect our children and reclaim our neighborhoods.”

The event is organized by Foundation for a Path Forward in collaboration with KidsPlay Foundation, with support from SACH BC (South Asian Community Hub), Moving Forward Family Services, and Penny Appeal Canada.

Organizers encourage attendees to register in advance for the free event.
