Sidney RCMP is investigating the use of counterfeit bills at a local business, prompting a warning to other shop owners and residents.

Police said that on August 21, Sidney/North Saanich RCMP received a report about a counterfeit $100 bill being used. The initial investigation revealed that the fake bill was “prop money,” which can be purchased online in various denominations.

Police are advising all businesses and individuals who accept cash payments to carefully inspect bills for authenticity. They stated that recirculating a counterfeit bill is a criminal offense. If you come across what you believe to be counterfeit currency, report it to the police immediately.
