Richmond RCMP has arrested a suspect in an alleged assault involving a weapon that took place in a shopping centre’s parkade on Wednesday night. The incident occurred on August 13, at approximately 10:30 p.m., in the 6500 block of No. 3 Road.
The RCMP received the call from an on-duty security guard who heard the commotion and quickly intervened. Frontline officers arrived on the scene and arrested the suspect without further incident. Police confirmed the suspect remains in custody and there is no ongoing risk to the public.
The victim was transported to a local hospital and is currently in stable condition. Authorities believe the victim and suspect were not known to each other.
Superintendent Julie Drotar, Richmond RCMP’s Senior Operations Officer, praised the security guard’s actions. “We want to commend the security guard for his quick thinking and actions that played a key role in assisting in this investigation and ensuring the suspect was arrested,” she said.
The Richmond RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS) is leading the active and ongoing investigation.
