Canada’s 2025 wildfire season has now become the second-worst in the country’s history. According to the latest data from the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre, the fires have scorched about 72,000 square kilometres — roughly the size of New Brunswick. Spokesperson Alexandria Jones says the crisis has stretched national resources to the limit, leading Canada to call in hundreds of international firefighters for support. Saskatchewan and Manitoba have recorded the largest areas burned, and several communities remain under evacuation orders. The Centre reports that 718 wildfires are currently active across Canada. British Columbia is battling 100 out-of-control fires, while Manitoba is facing 161. Ten new wildfires were reported today, bringing the total number recorded this year to 4,222.
