Health Canada has issued a recall for a brand of wearable sun visors equipped with built-in fans, citing a potential fire hazard.
Announced Thursday, the recall affects Chatties-brand visors sold at Giant Tiger stores between May and June of this year. The products were sold under the following UPC codes: 190818341588, 198018341595, 198018341601, and 198018341618.
The recall stems from a safety concern involving the charging cable for the visor’s electric fan. Health Canada warns that the cord can overheat while charging, posing a risk of burns or even fire.
As of the end of July, there have been three incident reports related to the issue, although no injuries have been reported. In total, 892 units were sold across Canada.
Consumers are urged to stop using the recalled visors immediately and return them to Giant Tiger for a refund. The agency also advises that these products should not be reused, resold, or given away.
For further details, customers can contact Giant Tiger at 1-833-848-4437 (during regular business hours, Eastern Time), email customerservice@gianttiger.com, or visit their website. Consumers can also report related incidents or safety concerns through Health Canada’s online reporting form.
