Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke recently visited Kap’s Café to meet with the owners following a shooting that occurred overnight on July 10.

Surrey and Delta police responded to reports of gunfire around 1:50 a.m. in the 8400-block of 120 Street. At least eight shots were fired at the café, located in Newton near the Surrey–North Delta border.

The target was Kap’s Café, a newly opened business launched by internationally known Indian comedian and actor Kapil Sharma and his wife, Ginni Chatrath. The shooting left several bullet holes in the windows, but fortunately, no injuries were reported, despite staff being present inside at the time.

In a press release on July 11, Locke also urged social media platforms to ban criminal content, following the online circulation of a video that allegedly showed the shooting at Kap’s Café.

The café has since reopened and now operates daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., remaining closed on Tuesdays.
