The Vancouver Police Department has filed additional second-degree murder charges against the suspected driver involved in the mass casualty incident at the Filipino Lapu Lapu Festival on April 26. Three new charges were announced this morning against 30-year-old Kai-Ji Lo, bringing the total to 11 counts.
Lo was originally charged with eight counts of second-degree murder on April 27. The BC Prosecution Service approved the additional charges after reviewing evidence submitted by Vancouver Police homicide investigators. Dozens more people were injured in the attack, which sparked national outrage and led to a provincial review of event safety protocols.
The 30-year-old suspect remains in custody.
