A man was arrested in Fort St. John last night after allegedly brandishing a pistol in public, which was later determined to be a BB gun.
On July 17, at 9:55 p.m., Fort St. John RCMP received a report of a man flashing a pistol while walking near 87 Street and 99 Avenue.
Frontline officers quickly responded and located two individuals, one of whom was an intoxicated man matching the suspect’s description. Officers found a black pistol on the man, which they seized. It was later confirmed to be a BB pistol.
“Because the Fort St. John RCMP take firearms calls very seriously, calls of this nature will always draw a significant police response,” stated Constable Chad Neustaeter, Fort St. John RCMP Media Relations Officer. “Thank you to the public who saw something they knew wasn’t right and reported it to police in the interest of public safety.”
The man was arrested for possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was transported to the Fort St. John RCMP detachment and has since been released on an Undertaking with protective conditions. His next court appearance is scheduled for November 24, 2025.
