The official opposition Conservative Leader John Rustad is dismissing Premier David Eby’s recent cabinet shuffle as a mere distraction from what he calls the Eby government’s growing failures.

Rustad stated the move offers “no relief to millions of British Columbians facing unaffordable living costs, collapsing health care and public safety systems, and a deepening economic recession.”

While the Eby government framed the shuffle as a response to increasing economic pressures, particularly rising trade tensions with the United States, Rustad argued it’s simply a tactic to “pull the wool over people’s eyes.”

“This Premier has reneged on his promises, like the $1,000 grocery rebate, because he has spent more than any premier in the last half-century. Now he wants a pat on the back for replacing his own ministers who previously allowed this crisis to develop under their watch,” Rustad said.

Rustad pointed to several recent incidents as examples of the NDP government’s alleged failures: “A woman in Kelowna was released from custody mere hours before her assailant killed her, the Kelowna pediatric ward had to close, ongoing ER closures, and the BC Ferries contract with a Chinese state-owned shipyard – these are all recent failures under the NDP government’s watch.”

“If Eby truly wanted to show leadership, he would take responsibility,” Rustad asserted. “The people of B.C. deserve a government that fights for them, not one that is constantly playing politics while British Columbians struggle to make ends meet.”
