Richmond RCMP issues 800 traffic violations in June

Richmond RCMP officers issued a total of 800 traffic violation tickets in the month of June as part of ongoing efforts to reduce high-risk driving and enhance road safety.

The key traffic offenses included 161 tickets for speeding, 63 for distracted driving, 30 for impaired driving (drug/alcohol-related), 213 for vehicle-related infractions, and 155 for driver’s license infractions.

RCMP Road Safety Unit (RSU), in partnership with the Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement (CVSE), also conducted a targeted operation against illegal ride-hailing services. Officers stopped vehicles suspected of operating outside approved ride-hailing regulations. As a result of the operation, five drivers were charged under the Passenger Transportation Act and Motor Vehicle Act.

The charges issued during the operation included: operating without a licence, operating with the wrong driver’s licence, failing to display a valid certificate, failing to comply with an order, displaying another vehicle’s identification on a commercially operated passenger vehicle, and operating without a business licence.
