The B.C. government has launched a new rebate program to help income-qualified renters and condo owners in multi-unit residential buildings (MURBs) install high-performance electric heat pumps. This initiative aims to reduce energy consumption, lower utility bills, and increase home comfort.

The Better Homes Energy Savings Program Condo and Apartment Rebate offers up to $5,000 to support the purchase and installation of heat pumps in individual suites within buildings up to six storeys tall.

“Almost one-third of homes in B.C. are in multi-unit buildings,” said Adrian Dix, Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions. “We’ve seen great results with heat pump adoption in single-family homes and entire multi-unit buildings. Now, we want to ensure all British Columbians, including renters and condo owners, have access to heat pumps to stay comfortable, save energy, and reduce costs.”

Starting July 15, 2025, the program will be open to suites currently heated by electricity, such as electric baseboards. In fall 2025, it will expand to include suites heated by fossil fuels like gas-fired boilers.
