One person was killed in a serious single-vehicle crash in Maple Ridge early Friday morning. Ridge Meadows RCMP is currently investigating the incident.
Around 3:05 a.m. local time, Ridge Meadows RCMP frontline officers responded to reports of a significant motor vehicle incident at 240th Street and Lougheed Highway.
Authorities believe a single vehicle was involved, resulting in a fatality. Upon police arrival, Maple Ridge Fire and Rescue and BC Emergency Health Services teams were already on scene.
The Serious Crimes Unit (SCU) and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Team (ICARS) have been called in to assist with the ongoing investigation.
Initially, Lougheed Highway was shut down in both directions. As of now, road closures remain in effect. The eastbound lanes of Lougheed Highway are completely closed between Jim Robson Way and 240th Street. Westbound traffic is reduced to a single lane between Jim Robson Way and 240th Street.
Officials anticipate the road closures will last for several more hours this morning, impacting the morning commute.
This is an active and ongoing investigation, and no further information is available at this time. Police are seeking witnesses and dash camera footage from the area.
