U.S. President Donald Trump issued final tariff warnings on Wednesday to seven smaller trading partners, as his administration moves closer to a potential trade agreement with the European Union, America’s largest trading partner.

In posts on his Truth Social platform, Trump announced that starting August 1, the U.S. will impose a 20% tariff on goods from the Philippines, 30% on imports from Sri Lanka, Algeria, Iraq, and Libya, and 25% on products from Brunei and Moldova. While no official notice was sent to the EU, Trump had previously stated he would issue “a minimum of seven” tariff letters Wednesday morning, with more expected later in the day. These latest notices follow 14 others issued earlier in the week, including 25% tariffs on key U.S. trade partners South Korea and Japan, also scheduled to take effect on August 1—unless agreements are reached before then.

The announcements came just a day after Trump escalated his trade offensive by imposing a 50% tariff on imported copper and signaling upcoming tariffs on semiconductors and pharmaceuticals.

Despite the new measures, Trump said trade negotiations with both China and the EU are progressing well. He added that the 27-member EU bloc has become more cooperative and hinted that he would likely inform them within two days of the expected tariff rate on their exports to the U.S.
