Surrey, B.C. – A new poll indicates that the vast majority of Canadians are unfamiliar with the nine individuals potentially vying for the leadership of the NDP.
A Research Co. poll found that when asked about possible candidates like current NDP MPs Leah Gazan, Gord Johns, Jenny Kwan, and Heather McPherson, most respondents stated they “don’t know who the person is.”
This lack of recognition extends to other high-profile New Democrats, including former House leader Ruth Ellen Brosseau, former Vancouver mayor Kennedy Stewart, and filmmaker Avi Lewis.
Brosseau received the most favorable response in the poll, with 18 percent of respondents expressing a positive view of her. Jenny Kwan, meanwhile, saw the highest combined percentage (22%) of respondents who said they “definitely” or “probably” want to see her run for the leadership.
The poll was an online survey of 1,001 people conducted between June 30 and July 2. The Canadian Research Insights Council, the polling industry’s professional body, notes that online surveys cannot be assigned a margin of error due to their non-random sampling methodology.
