SURREY, BC – Two people are “dead” following an RCMP-involved shooting in Surrey’s Clayton Heights neighborhood on Monday night. A significant police presence remains in the area, taking up a city block near 194 Street and 66A Avenue.

CityNews claims that the Surrey Police Service (SPS) has confirmed that the incident involved members of the RCMP. Sources close to the investigation indicate the shooting occurred in response to a report of alleged intimate partner violence at a local residence.

According to these sources, an officer discharged his firearm at a man who was reportedly attacking his partner, a woman. The man is said to have then charged at officers with a weapon. Tragically, both the man and woman have died.

The investigation into the shooting has now been handed over to the Independent Investigations Office of B.C. (IIO) and the BC RCMP. Sgt. Lindsey Houghton of the SPS stated, “Even though it occurred in Surrey, because it involved only RCMP members, the BC RCMP and the (Independent Investigations Office) will be issuing news releases later this morning and SPS will defer to the IIO, as the investigation into the shooting now rests with them.”

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has also been called to the scene. Images from the area show that police have taped off the surrounding block, including a laneway, as the investigation continues.

The SPS advises drivers to avoid the area as the scene is still being held by authorities
