SURREY, B.C. – A bomb threat reported at the Vancouver International Airport (YVR) Nav Canada Air Traffic Control Tower this morning was determined to be false after an investigation, Richmond RCMP announced today.

In a statement, the RCMP said that at approximately 2:00 a.m. Thursday, Richmond RCMP received a report of a threat at the YVR Nav Canada Air Traffic Control Tower. The tower was subsequently evacuated. With the assistance of Integrated Police Dog Services (IPDS), a thorough search was conducted, and nothing dangerous was found.

“The RCMP and YVR take threats of this nature very seriously,” said Corporal Melissa Lui, Media Relations Officer for the Richmond RCMP. “After the initial investigation, investigators determined this to be a false report, and that there is no credible threat to public safety.”

Corporal Lui added, “We would like to thank IPDS and YVR staff for their actions and for ensuring the safety of the public.”

Canadian airports are resuming normal operations after receiving bomb threats early Thursday morning. Temporary ground stops implemented at several Canadian airports, including Ottawa, Montreal, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Calgary, and Vancouver, have been lifted. This information was provided by Nav Canada, Canada’s air traffic control service.

Nav Canada reported that the morning threats affected the aforementioned airports. In a social media post, Nav Canada stated that services are gradually resuming after “the evacuation of a number of our sites” and threat assessment by authorities.

Ottawa airport announced to passengers a little after 10 a.m. that it was close to resuming normal operations. The airport had stated earlier Thursday that it was investigating a “security incident” and that operations could be disrupted.
