On Thursday, three hikers were injured and two died after being caught in a rockslide in Banff National Park. The fatalities occurred on the same Thursday. One of the deceased was a 70-year-old university professor named Jutta Hinrichs , who lived in Calgary, and the other victim was from Surrey.
Today, the RCMP will not share the identity of 33-year-old resident of Surrey. However, Khaled Elgamal, who was injured in the incident, identified his deceased friend as Hamza Benhilal. Elgamal himself is in hospital with fractures to his pelvis and shoulder.
Elgamal said today that he had gone to Banff with Ben Hilal. They heard rocks slipping and started to run, but Elgamal was trapped under large rocks while his friend Hamza Benhilal was killed.
