WestJet reports that a cyberattack that began last week remains unresolved, as uncertainty persists over the nature and potential impact of the breach.

Canada’s second-largest airline is currently investigating whether any sensitive data or personal customer information was compromised after hackers gained access to its internal systems.

According to an online advisory, the attack—detected late last week—has not disrupted flight operations. However, some users may experience “intermittent interruptions or errors” when using WestJet’s website or mobile app.

Company spokesperson Josh Yeats stated that the investigation is ongoing in coordination with law enforcement. However, WestJet has not disclosed the specific nature of the breach, such as whether it involved malware or ransomware. The cyberattack occurred just before international leaders arrived for the G7 summit in Kananaskis, Alberta, though no direct connection to the event has been identified.

Airlines and airports have increasingly become targets for cybercriminals due to the vast amounts of personal and financial data they handle and their global digital infrastructure.
