Alberta Conservative Damien Kurek has officially resigned as a Member of Parliament, fulfilling his earlier promise this spring to vacate his seat in the Battle River—Crowfoot riding. This move paves the way for Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre to run in a by-election.
Poilievre lost his Ottawa-area seat in the last general election to Liberal Bruce Fanjoy, a political newcomer.
Prime Minister Mark Carney has stated that he will call a by-election in the riding as soon as possible.
