6.4 magnitude earthquake rattles BC's North Coast

A couple of earthquakes rattled off the BC coast yesterday afternoon.

The U-S geological survey estimated the first quake at 6.5, while Natural Resources Canada set the preliminary magnitude at 6 and the second shake-up was much smaller at 4.5. The Canadian agency set the depth of the quake at about 10 KMs and says it was centered between Haida Gwaii and Port McNeill on northern Vancouver Island.

The National Weather Service Tsunami Warning Centre in Hawaii said there was no threat of a tsunami from the earthquake.
