A major crash on Highway 1 eastbound near Chilliwack on Sunday was fatal, Mounties have confirmed.
The BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) reported that the incident occurred just before 1 p.m. between Young and Prest roads. A 74-year-old Agassiz woman, who was the sole occupant of her grey Ford Focus, crashed and rolled into a ditch. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and no other injuries were reported.
The highway was closed for several hours as investigators processed the scene. DriveBC announced that the highway reopened around 9 p.m. While the BCHP stated there are “no indications of overt criminality,” police are still hoping to speak with any witnesses to the crash.
