63-year-old woman dies after being struck in Chilliwack collision

Police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred Tuesday afternoon in Chilliwack’s Sardis area, resulting in the death of a 63-year-old woman pedestrian.

First responders arrived near Vedder Road after receiving reports of the collision shortly before 4:30 p.m.

Chilliwack RCMP says the victim, a 63-year-old woman, was attempting to cross the street from the central median when she was struck by the driver of a pickup truck as she re-entered the southbound lanes.

A police release issued on Wednesday stated, “The Chilliwack Fire Department and BC Emergency Health Services attended the scene; however, the woman was pronounced deceased.”

Police confirmed that the driver and witnesses stopped at the scene immediately following the crash. The victim’s next of kin have been notified. The investigation into the exact cause of the collision is ongoing.
