U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) intercepted 475.95 kilograms of cocaine near the Ambassador Bridge last Thursday, preventing the drugs from entering Canada.

On September 11, officers flagged a trailer for inspection and discovered several bricks of a white powder hidden inside multiple boxes and two duffel bags. Testing confirmed the substance was cocaine.

“Stopping dangerous narcotics from reaching our communities is a vital part of our border security mission, and we will continue to stand firm against the illicit drug trade,” said Marc Calixte, port director at the Port of Detroit.

The cocaine, along with the truck and trailer, was seized. A citizen of India is now facing federal charges.

So far this fiscal year, CBP’s Detroit Field Office has seized over 4,300 pounds of cocaine and nearly 1,000 pounds of methamphetamine.
