Surrey Police are investigating a “dangerous and disturbing” road rage incident after a driver was pepper-sprayed by another motorist in an assault captured on dashcam footage. The video was later shared on social media.

The incident occurred on Tuesday in Surrey, when a red pickup truck pulled up alongside a grey Ford F-150. The driver of the red truck rolled down his window and exchanged words with the other driver before getting out of his vehicle, climbing into the bed of the Ford, and discharging bear or pepper spray through the open rear window. He then got back into his truck, drove across traffic, and fled the scene.

Sonny Bihari was the victim in the grey truck.

Surrey Police confirmed Thursday that they are investigating the incident. According to Surrey PD spokesperson Ian MacDonald, they received a call from another motorist at approximately 3:15 p.m. on August 12. An RCMP Surrey provincial operations support unit officer was dispatched to the scene at 104th Avenue and Hwy 17 to meet with the victim.

MacDonald stated that the victim was able to decontaminate himself and left the scene shortly after. “This was a disturbing and unacceptable incident, dangerous not just for the victim but for all drivers and traffic on the roadway,” he said. “At this point, we are awaiting more information from him and other witnesses.”
