SURREY, BC – The Surrey Police Service (SPS) is investigating a late-night hit-and-run collision in Surrey’s City Centre neighborhood that resulted in a pedestrian being hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said that shortly after 10:00 p.m. on June 22, SPS Frontline officers responded to a report of a hit-and-run involving a vehicle and a pedestrian at the intersection of Old Yale Road and Mall Access, located between Holland Park and Central City Mall. “Upon arrival, officers discovered that a 14-year-old boy had been struck by a vehicle that then fled the scene. The boy was transported to the hospital by BCEHS with injuries that are not considered life-threatening,” police said.
“The vehicle was later located driving near 104 Avenue and Whalley Boulevard at approximately 2:15 a.m. The driver was arrested on suspicion of both impaired driving and failing to remain at the scene of a collision. The investigation is still in its early stages, and no charges have been laid yet,” police claimed.
Staff Sergeant Lindsey Houghton said “It appears that the pedestrian, and other pedestrians near the pedestrian that was hit, were coming from the halal festival, although the collision does not appear to have any connection to the festival at all.”
