A dozen people were taken to the hospital after two boats collided on Okanagan Lake in Kelowna, B.C., on Wednesday night.
First responders were called to the scene just south of the William R. Bennett Bridge at approximately 8:40 p.m., according to Central Okanagan Search and Rescue.
“It was initially unknown if any subjects were in the water, but quick action by the Kelowna RCMP determined everyone was accounted for,” the volunteer agency said in a social media post.
A photo shared from the scene showed one pleasure boat resting almost completely on top of the other vessel.
Seven ambulances were dispatched to the scene, and paramedics provided emergency medical treatment to 12 patients, as stated by B.C. Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) spokesperson Bowen Osoko. Five of the patients were transported to the hospital in stable condition, while the other seven were in good condition.
