Fauja Singh, the iconic 114-year-old marathon runner, has tragically died after being struck by an unidentified vehicle. The incident reportedly occurred around 3:30 p.m. this afternoon while he was crossing a road in his village, Beas.
Singh began his remarkable marathon journey at the age of 89. He rose to international fame in 2011 after participating in the Toronto Marathon, earning widespread acclaim as the world’s oldest marathon runner. In 2012, he continued to amaze the world by completing a 20-kilometre run in the London Marathon. His final professional race took place in 2013, when he competed in the Hong Kong Marathon at the age of 101.
Fauja Singh took up long-distance running after enduring a profound personal tragedy: the loss of his wife and son in an accident when he was 89. This heartbreak led him to battle depression, but he found healing and purpose through running. His incredible journey, marked by resilience, discipline, and perseverance, went on to inspire millions across the globe. Despite his extraordinary achievements, his name was never officially entered into the Guinness World Records due to the absence of a birth certificate.
